HOUSE OF THE FUTURE EDITION #2
This project, which envisions next-generation housing in the UAE, takes inspiration from the region’s traditional architectural element, the Badgir (windcatcher). The design aims to cool spaces by expelling warm indoor air and drawing in cool outdoor air, while also utilizing underground spaces to reduce the impact of the UAE’s intense direct sunlight.
To represent the movement of warm air escaping and cool air entering, the design features funnel-shaped structures combined with regional forms to create the primary massing. Warm air is released through the largest structure, while the second-largest structure is designed to facilitate the inflow of outdoor air. Additionally, sunken areas and windows are positioned to face the southeast, where steady winds blow parallel to the ground, creating spaces that enhance airflow efficiency.
